Throughout the State of Michigan we are facing multiple challenges to student success in our schools. Those students who come from low income families face many obstacles to attending, achieving and graduating from School. In 2011 nearly 34,000 students in Michigan failed to graduate on time, graduating 16,200 of these students could have boosted Michigan’s economy in the following ways:
• $193 million in increased earnings
• $145 million in increased spending
• $48 million in increased investments
• $544 million in increased home sales
• $17 million in increased auto sales
• 1,200 new jobs
• $224 million in economic growth
• $19 million in increased tax revenue
