DTE commits $10,000.00 to Support Communities In Schools of Michigan

Lansing, MI – Communities In Schools of Michigan, a dropout prevention nonprofit dedicated to empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life, today announced that DTE has committed $10,000 to Communities In Schools of Michigan to support its core programs. This is the first investment that DTE has made in the State organization of Communities In Schools of Michigan; DTE has invested in the local affiliate CIS of Detroit in previous years.

The funding provided by DTE will provide Communities In Schools of Michigan with the opportunity to expand its services to other communities and provide stronger support to Michigan’s current affiliates, which are located in Detroit, Kalamazoo, Adrian, Mancelona and Tecumseh.

“DTE’s commitment to the students in most need in Michigan to stay in school and achieve in life is a powerful statement from a business leader in Michigan” said Jeff Brown, state director, Communities In Schools of Michigan. “With their investment, we are better able to provide our affiliates and our students with the support they need to achieve.”

Last school year, nearly 90% of eligible students served by Communities In Schools of Michigan graduated, compared to the State average graduation rate of 74%. CIS works with the most at risk students, 92% of which are on Free and Reduced price lunch.
